This workshop will assist the watercolorist in selecting  color schemes and specific paints that will produce a work of art that projects the desired atmosphere, be it vibrant or gentle and glowing while achieving clean, glowing color,

Participants will learn the properties of a variety of watercolor paints that will allow them to chose and mix the colors needed to achieve intense colors; rich, transparent darks; or glowing gray tones. They can experiment and learn  the unusual properties of a variety of specific watercolor paints.   Participants will use and  view a variety of techniques for applying color; learn established color principles for planning and evaluating works in progress;  learn how to select paints and colors and organize them into special palettes (4) conduct their own self-critique using a checklist of design principles: color key, color contrast, and color dominance, for evaluating their own watercolors.   Special emphases will be placed on the high chroma watercolors, to include the quinacridone, anthroquinoid, indanthrene, dioxazine violet (carbazole or Winsor Violet) and the pthalocynaide paints.

 

Materials: 2 sheets watercolor paper cut into quarter sheets, or equivalent size watercolor block
                  Your normal paints, brushes, and other equipment
                  Recommended paint colors if you don't already have them:  Pthalo Green (GS) and Pthalo Blue (GS), Pthalo Turquoise (optional), Anthroquinoid red, dioxazine violet (AKA carbazole violet or Winsor violet), quinacridone gold , rust (not DaVinci) and violet, Fr. Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Daniel Smith Indrathrone Blue, and indigo.
